Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure designed to enhance the natural appearance and volume of the breast. Breast augmentation surgery is typically performed for a variety of reasons, including volume enhancement, correction of breast asymmetry and restoration of breast fullness after pregnancy or weight changes.
A patient is seen for an initial consultation to make several important decisions and to ensure open lines of communication between the surgeon and patient. During your consultation, Dr. Viezel-Mathieu will discuss your aesthetic goals and establish a surgical plan to customize the shape and size of the breasts. This will include determining the ideal implant type and size, implant location either above or below the muscle and incision location.
Details
The surgery generally occurs several weeks after consultation. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia as a day surgery. A typical recovery ranges from 2-4 weeks.
During surgery, a saline or silicone breast implant is inserted behind the breast tissue or chest muscle to enhance and customize the shape, size, fullness, and cleavage lines of the breast.
For patients seeking a modest increase in volume, fat transfer may also be an option. Fat transfer or fat grafting works by transferring fat from unwanted areas such as the abdomen, flanks and hips to the breast. Depending on your anatomy and aesthetic goals, breast augmentation can be combined with a breast lift to further correct breast shape and enhance volume. This combined procedure, known as mastopexy augmentation, is commonly performed to treat typical breast changes seen after pregnancy and breastfeeding, weight loss or to improve breast asymmetry.
